The University of Santo Tomas (UST), in partnership with the Embassy of the State of Israel in Manila, mounted a photo exhibition of Pope Francis’s 2014 visit to Israel. The exhibition held from December 12 to 14, 2019 at the UST Faculty of Civil Law Social Hall was part of the celebration of the 25th year of the diplomatic relations between the State of Israel and the Holy See.

Gracing the opening of the exhibition was Embassy of Israel Deputy Chief of Mission Ms. Yulia Rachinsky-Spivakov. In her message, she said that the visit of Pope Francis to Israel on May 25 and 26, 2014, marked an important milestone in the deepening relationship among the Catholic Church, Israel and the Jewish people.

“Pope Francis touched the people’s hearts – regardless of their faith or nation. He emerged as a bridge-builder of brotherhood and peace, ” said Rachinsky-Spivakov.

In his welcome remarks, UST Vice Rector for Religious Affairs Rev Fr. Pablo T. Tiong, O.P., shared that “The visit of Pope Francis will always be an important event: whether it’s through a photo exhibition, or the visit of His Holiness himself to UST in January 2015; in the same way that the visit of our friends from the Embassy of Israel is always an experience of warm friendship.”

Archbishop of Manila His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle originally led the unveiling of the photo exhibit during his June 2019 visit at the Synagogue in Israel.
