Themed “Education in Integrity: Channeling Honesty and Truth through the Television” this year, the event awarded TV programs and personalities for their invaluable contributions to the Thomasian student community. It also calls for honesty in the society, according to Rev. Fr. Isidro Abaño, O.P.
Its over-arching standard is integrity, according to UST Rector Rev. Fr. Rolando de la Rosa, O.P., who defined it as “choosing right over wrong and truth over what is merely said.”
The awards are categorized into Student’s Choice, Student’s Judges Choice and Most Popular Award, and were divided into the fields of news, entertainment and public service.
In the field of news programs, ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol World and its hosts became a favorite choice among students, while Maalaala Mo Kaya continued to be an all-time winner as it won the Student’s Choice of Drama Program award for the fourth time. Other shows of the stations were also given other awards.
Meanwhile, aside from GMA’s other award-winning programs, drama mini-series Marimar proved to be very popular along with its main cast Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.
Among the television stations recognized, Studio 23 was chosen as the Student’s Choice of Channel – Most Youth-Responsible TV Station, and its youth-oriented show Y-Speak also won the Student’s Choice of Public Affairs Talk Show Program.
The awards night was attended by TV icons such as Cheryl Cosin, Dingdong Dantes, Wendell Ramos the cast of Bubble Gang, and the even the “housemates” of Pinoy Big Brother Season 2. Ruffa Gutierrez, Vicky Morales, and Boy Abunda also came.
The annual event was organized by the Office of the Secretary General in cooperation with the Office of Public Affairs, Ed Tech Center and the Student Organizations Coordinating Council. Krzl Light Nunes
