In celebration of its 400th year in 2011, the University of Santo Tomas formally launches the PRÈMIO TOMAS: The UST Quadricentennial Literary Prize.
An award of P100,000 for each of the following categories will be offered:
- Epic Poetry: Prèmio Recto (The Recto Prize for Epic Poetry)
- Novel: Prèmio Jose (The Rizal Prize for the Novel)
- Full-length Drama in Three Acts: Prèmio Tinio (The Tinio Prize for the Drama)
- Expanded Nonfiction Narrative or Essay Collection: Prèmio Mabini (The Mabini Prize for the Essay)
The contest is open to all Filipino citizens (including Filipinos with dual citizenship), except for the members of the UST Quadricentennial Literary Prize Committee. Contestants may submit only one (1) entry per category in any of these languages: Filipino, English or Spanish. Only one prize per category will be awarded. Works that have been previously published or awarded a prize in other contests are not eligible. For the epic poetry, novel and full-length drama categories, subject or theme is open. For the expanded nonfiction narrative or essay collection category, subject or theme should reflect the UST Quadricentennial theme which is: University of Santo Tomas: Building the Church, Building the Nation. Entry forms for the contest may be downloaded the UST Website. Deadline for submission of entries is on March 30, 2011. The announcement and awarding of winners is in October 2011.
