Savage Nature - A Retrospective in Harmony

Savage Nature - A Retrospective in Harmony Painting Exhibition at the UST Museum - Nov. 8, 2011 to Dec. 10, 2011

Travel to the loveliest landscapes in Tuscany, Italy, among other places in Europe, China and North America, through the eyes of painter Lolita Valderrama-Savage.  Imbibe the same harmony that inspired Lolita to paint this select collection of oils and pencil drawings reflecting her 40 years outside the Philippines communing with nature and creating art.

After finishing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Santo Tomas where she was mentored by her beloved and distinguished painting professors Messrs. Leonardo Hidalgo and Diosdado Lorenzo, among others, she obtained a Licenza in Pittura at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy, under the guidance of the well-respected Italian painter Silvio Loffredo, as an Italian government art scholar.  Then she traveled to Sweden to study with the internationally prominent Swedish painter, Staffan Hallstrom.  Traveling the world since she left the Philippines in the 1970s, Lolita has emerged as a global citizen and artist, wife to international businessman Frank Savage, and mother to three wonderful children - Antoine, Grace and Frankie.  Through the paintings in this exhibition, Lolita returns to her beloved Philippines to share with her fellow Filipinos (and fellow Thomasians), the primary lesson of her global adventure, “the universality of nature’s beauty.”

A fantasy of brushstrokes: Lolita is a disciple of painting as painstaking fine art. The details and layering of Lolita’s artwork invite the art lover to view each painting from several vantage points and challenge the art student to study Lolita‘s painting methods.  A travelogue:  the traveler will enjoy the medley of bright, cheerful “global yet local” landscape images.  Lolita’s paintings grace the collections of the rich and famous - including, among others, film director Spike Lee, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab, Nobel Prize winner Manfred Eigen, and certain Filipino collectors.  Thus, anyone curious to see the type and quality of paintings that would typically be locked up in private mansions only for their owners (and close friends) to see, will recognize and enjoy the same theme of harmony that these famous collectors have enjoyed.  A nature’s refuge: the works on display will soothe tired eyes, calm the stressed mind and inspire a viewer’s own creativity!
