BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS
Appointed Associate Professor III in 2008; formerly, a Scientist at the Aquaculture Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center for 25 years; worked as Consultant for the European Union Project “ Laguna de Bay, Philippines: An Ecosystem Approach for Sustainable Management” from 1995-1997; formerly a Resource Person for the Training Course on the Mass Cultivation of the Blue-Green Alga Spirulina platensis, 1996–1997, at the Technology and Livelihood Resource Center, Makati City; recipient of Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act R&D Paper Award in 2004, 16th National Research Symposium, Bureau of Agricultural Research, Department of Agriculture; currently a Project Leader for the DOST Grant under the Program “Biodiesel from Microalgae"; Sub Program "Biodiesel Feedstock Production from Freshwater Microalgae”.Project Title "Genetic Manipulation in Microalgae Towards an Economically Feasible Production of Biodiesel Feedstock".
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Microalgae as source of biofuel, growth physiology of algae, toxin production in Microcystis, effects of microcystins in fish, ecological and physiological studies on Spirulina, culture studies on freshwater zooplankton, fry to fingerling production in freshwater fishes, utilization of phytoplankton and zooplankton as feed for freshwater fishes, phytoplankton population dynamics in lakes and ponds.
