THE PLAZA MAYOR WAS BUILT DURING the summer of 2006. What used to be a plain-looking parking area that formed part of the façade of the Main Building is now a vast expanse reminiscent of the classical plazas of Europe. The Plaza Mayor was built as part of the university’s preparations for its quadricentennial in 2011. It aims to enhance the structural magnificence of the Main Building.
