DR. JOHN DONNIE A. RAMOS (middle), Assistant Dean of the College of Science of the University of Santo Tomas, was given the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Prize during the 32nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) on 14-15 July 2010. Dr. Ramos was accorded such honor “for his significant contribution in the field of molecular biology, particularly the molecular cloning, expression and characterization of house dust mite allergens, one of the most common causes of allergic diseases worldwide. His research work has generated monoclonal antibodies against house dust mite allergens for allergen detection, diagnosis and isolation and purification of native allergens, that led to better understanding and easy identification of the proper treatment for dust mites allergies.
