I am happy that another “beauty and brains” triumphed in the recent Binibining Pilipinas pageant. After magna cum laude graduate and Architecture board exam topnotcher Shamcey Supsup last year, we now have the stunning Janine Tugonon as the country’s bet in the Miss Universe 2012 pageant. This tall and articulate young pharmacist graduated cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas (my alma mater).

The infrastructure guidelines for the rice terraces was the result of the collaborative project between the University of Santo Tomas Center for the Conservation of Cultural Property in the Tropics, the National Commission for Culture and Arts, Ifugao Provincial Government and the UNESCO.

UST IN THE NEWS. UST TOTAL Awardee launches book about Filipinos in entertainment entitled “My Filipino Connection: The Philippines in Hollywood”

Based in Los Angeles, Ruben V. Nepales recently went home to receive The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni (TOTAL) Award in media, the highest alumni honors given by his alma mater, University of Santo Tomas (UST). He was a finalist in the 2011 National Entertainment Journalism Awards, a US-wide competition presented by the Los Angeles Press Club. In 2010, Nepales was honored with the inaugural AB Gantimpala Award for media by UST’s Faculty of Arts and Letters.
