From March 16-17, 2017, the fourth international conference of the Philippine Academic Consortium for Latin American Studies (PACLAS) will be held at the University of Santo Tomas (March 16) and the Ateneo de Manila University (March 17). UST is the current Chair of the said conference.
This conference is being held in collaboration with the Foreign Service Institute and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines.
Revolving around the theme “Strengthening economic and cultural exchanges between the Philippines and Latin America,” the conference explores dimensions of Philippine-Latin American relations within the larger context of the Asia-Pacific, including historical, political, and socio-cultural aspects, with a view to strengthening economic exchange between the Philippines and Latin America. The program includes the experience of Asian countries that have developed ties with Latin American region, and experiences of top Latin American investors in the Philippines and of top Filipino investors in Latin America. Since the conference aims to identify areas of potentially vibrant exchanges, the embassies of Latin American countries, various government agencies, and economists figure prominently in the program. Participation is open to the public and private sectors, in particular, chambers of commerce, associations of exporters, and academe.
