The National Book Development Board – Philippines announced as winners two books from the UST Publishing House in the 37th National Book Awards last November 5, 2018.


Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies Director Prof. Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, PhD’s book entitled “The Thing With Feathers: My Book of Memories” was named “Best Book of Essays in English.” Divided in three parts, Hidalgo’s memoir narrates her life as a young woman, her experiences while traveling, and as well as her insights on writing life itself.

Meanwhile, fictionist Sarge Lacuesta’s book titled “Coral Cove and Other Stories” was adjudged “Best Book of Short Fiction in English”. This is Lacuesta’s fourth book of fiction which collects “stories that take place in the clouded past, the urgent present, and the dark future—yet all seem to happen in the same timeframe and state of mind”.
