Last April 24, 2017 (Monday), the Simbahayan Community Development Office held the awarding ceremonies of the Bartolome delas Casas Community Development Poster Exhibit at the Quadricentennial Pavilion – Front Lobby.
In his message, Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs Rev. Fr. Filemon Dela Cruz, OP, said: “Activities like this is an occasion for us to deepen our understanding, our awareness of what has become, for us, a common activity.” In line the theme “Ambag ng Tomasino para sa isang mapayapa at makatarungang lipunan” (Thomasian Engagement for a Peaceful and Just Society), Simbahayan Director Asst. Prof. Mark Anthony Abenir, DSD, underscored that one cannot dismantle justice and peace in the actions that aim to change the society for the better. “This poster-making contest serves as a message to spread awareness of our University’s initiatives.” Abenir said. According to Abenir, the posters used environmental-friendly materials. “Instead of using tarpaulin, we used photo paper which were five-times the cost but what is more important? For us, it is the environment.”

Abenir noted that the awards were only on top of the interest and the contest gave the students a picture of their own contribution, as Thomasians, to society through their artwork. Since its conception on 2013, the exhibit is an annual activity aimed to highlight the best practices of the University in the field of community development and its various initiatives. This year and for the very first time, SIMBAHAYAN will hold the activity thru integrating a poster exhibit contest.
