Last October 4-6, 2018, BS Hotel and Restaurant Management students won medals in the the 14th Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism (HRT) Weekend, with the theme: “Learn to Win,” held in Baguio City, Benguet. UST students participated in 3 non-culinary events of the National Food Showdown Competition (NFS).
For the Hospitality Entrepreneurship Service category, Ms. Carmela Logmao, Mr. Kyle Guaro, Mr. Christian Bai Gamboa, Ms. Zea Danica Peñascosa and Ms. Angelu Estellena won the Gold Medal. Meanwhile, Mr. Cloyd Acapuyan and Mr. Kyle Austin Yasay bagged the Silver Medal in the Floral Bouquet Design category and Bellman Hour category, respectively.
The 4th-year BSHRM students were coached by Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management Chairperson Assoc. Prof. Evangeline E. Timbang, together with the HRM faculty members, Chef Nathaniel A. Siao and Chef Maria Theresa B. Resurreccion. Mr. Jan Dayaon, an alumnus of the College, also assisted the representatives.
The HRT is an annual event organized by the private-led Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB), who has been one of Baguio City’s aggressive private sector partners in helping promote the country’s undisputed Summer Capital as a must-see destination in the country because of its naturally cool climate aside from its scenic tourist destinations that entice foreign and domestic visitors to frequent the city. The National Food Showdown (NFS) was open for students and professionals of the culinary industry who wanted to showcase their skills and talents.
