The University of Santo Tomas College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (UST-CTHM) once again made an international mark as one of the country’s leading hospitality educational institutions when 14 of its administrators and faculty members became Certified Hospitality Educators (CHE) by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI).

The CHE programme, the only professional development opportunity that is designed for post-secondary hospitality educators around the world, hosted by UST-CTHM last June 8-10, 2016, was a three-day workshop which offered intensive, interactive learning experiences, the latest global principles and skills that provide the best educational experience for hospitality students. It was facilitated by Fr. Robert Steele who is a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Auckland. Fr. Steele is currently a program leader and a senior lecturer at the AUT University, School of Hospitality and Tourism in Auckland, New Zealand, and has a 30-year experience in the field of hospitality.

In order to become certified by AHLEI, one must meet the knowledge and experience requirements and successfully complete a certification examination. As such, UST is proud of the administrators who became Certified Hospitality Educators composed of CTHM Dean Maria Cecilia Tio Cuison, Asst. Dean Amy Mia Turaray, Hotel and Restaurant Management Program Chair Evangeline Timbang, Travel Management Program Chair Fredeswindo Medina and Asst. Director for Admissions Atty. Gezzez Giezi Granado. The faculty members who got certified were Maria Conception Ang, Jane Devanadera, Christine Conception Fajardo, Maigie Feria, Jinky Rose Gino-Gino, Ryan Liba, Roshni Mansukhani, Freddie Quinito, and Nathaniel Siao. They now carry with their names the CHE designation. They were awarded with the CHE lapel pin and certificate plaque by Mr. Andrea Mastellone, the AHLEI Ambassador.

For AHLEI-approved certified hospitality educators to retain their designation, every after 5 years, they will be undergoing a recertification process, including garnering points taken from their combined teaching experience, continuing education, professional affiliations, and other educational services such as conducting hospitality trainings and related workshops.
