Ms. Joan Ternio of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program of the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences won the Best in Research Award during the 5th International Conference on Emerging Technologies in Asia and the Pacific, hosted by the University of Asia and the Pacific on June 15, 2020.
The online conference featured different research papers from participating institutions. Ternio, who worked with Kit Arvin R. Cadiente, Rafael A. Castro, Kathrice Marie C. Mora, and Elia Van A. Gica, presented the paper entitled “Applying Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) and Network Enhancement on the Network Infrastructure of Journey Tech, Inc.”
Responding to the need of Journey Tech, Inc. to assess and management vulnerabilities, the study used the Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing Work Flow as its method. Twelve servers and the firewall appliance of the company were replicated. After utilizing OpenVAS and Metasploit, the students determined the extent of vulnerability and provided remediation, as well as proposed measures for network enhancement and remediated network topology.
