Engr. Beatriz A. Belmonte, PhD of the Department of Chemical Engineering won the Best Scientific Poster for Engineering Science and Technology in the 42nd National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Annual Scientific Meeting – Scientific Poster Session held from July 8-9 2020.
Belmonte’s poster was entitled “A Novel Modeling Framework for the Proper Implementation of Biochar-Based Carbon Management Networks,” an offshoot of her doctoral dissertation. Belmonte’s framework “[accounted] for relevant and practical aspects of biochar research” and is the “first to integrate these aspects of biochar research into a systematic framework for the high-level planning of large-scale BCMNs. Such framework provides innovative biochar systems concepts to fill the research gap in the global biochar literature,” the abstract read.
Belmonte finished her Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering degree from De La Salle University in December 2018 under the DOST’s Engineering Research and Development for Technology program. She is a researcher at the Research Center for Natural and Applied Sciences.
